Another Brick in the Wall
I have been drawing (on and off) all my life. The last two years I'd hardly drawn at all but since the Covid lockdown, my drawing mojo has returned. I don't know where it came from, but now it's arrived, it doesn't want to leave! As always happens in my arty phases - I go through obsessions. Obsessions with artists, obsessions with styles and obsessions with what I want to create. The greatest joy about my current "art" is that the only reason I have to do it, is to enjoy myself - to enjoy the process and enjoy the results. Nobody is expecting me to make money out of it, I'm off Instagram so no craving approval. I'm in this for me.
My latest obsession is Moleskine sketchbooks. Have you seen the beautiful illustrations some artists create in these gorgeous little pocket books? Check out my Pinterest board on the subject and you'll see I truly am obsessed! But, OMG, have a look - you'll see why! And you'll also see how this kind of drawing fits with my current selfish art. It's not for sharing (except on here!) or selling. It's just for keeping.
I ordered my first book - a little dark red pocket book - and could barely wait for it to arrive. Luckily it didn't take long and I got straight to work on the opening page. I had planned to draw a dry stone wall but when I opened it I noticed the "This book belongs to" section and decided to try and include that in the drawing, so I went for a more urban brick wall, making the written section a poster. I haven't brought myself to add my details yet, or the offer of a reward. Does anyone actually do that?
It only occurred to me as I was drawing that the bricks could serve as contents for each page. Let's see how long it takes to fill it.
